The role and its responsibilities
 

The post holder will support the delivery of research and policy-oriented outputs for a GCRF/ESRC funded research project. The project looks at the role of illicit/drug economies in transitions from war to peace in Afghanistan, Colombia and Myanmar. It brings together UK institutions and southern research partners with a view to: a) developing a robust and new evidence base b) strengthening the research capacity of southern partners c) changing prevailing policies towards drugs, development and peacebuilding. The Post-Doctoral Research Fellow will work closely with the PI to deliver high-quality, comparative and inter-disciplinary research and policy outputs. This post will have a strong coordinating role across the project team.
 

The ideal candidate will have a proven track-record of writing and editing material for academic and policy audiences, conducting, coordinating and managing research and working in inter-disciplinary and multi-partner research environments. They should have a good understanding of some of the themes underpinning the research – illicit economies, drugs, conflict and peace-building.
 

This post will be based in the UK but will involve some overseas travel. You will work closely with the SOAS team led by the PI, Professor Jonathan Goodhand, and including other post-doctoral and senior researchers. The role will also involve developing strong working relationships with the wider project team and collaborating organisations.
 

There will be opportunities to interact with other researchers in SOAS and you will be encouraged to attend and contribute to relevant research meetings, seminars and training/staff development opportunities within and beyond SOAS.
 

Skills and experience
 

The post-holder will require a PhD with experience of working on multi-partner research projects. We would also strongly encourage applicants with experience of working in policy-focussed and/or NGO environments.
